With years of experience working with children and families, Claire brings a warm, child-centred, and family-friendly approach to audiology. She knows how important it is for every child or young person to feel relaxed and confident during their hearing assessments. Any strategies or support plans she recommends are practical, easy to fit into family life, and whenever possible, fun!
Claire treats every child as an individual and tailors her approach to suit their unique needs.
Claire holds an MSc in Audiology from the University of Southampton and completed her Certificate in Audiological Competence (CAC), which allows her to register as a Clinical Scientist (Audiology) with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Most of her career has been within the NHS—after training in Leeds, she worked in Nottingham in several paediatric audiology roles, eventually becoming the Clinical Lead for Paediatrics and later Head of Service. More recently, she’s added Hearing Aid Dispenser registration with the HCPC and completed her wax management training.
Clinically, Claire has a special interest in helping children and young people who experience tinnitus or sound sensitivity (hyperacusis). She’s presented on these topics at national conferences and helped deliver professional training through the British Tinnitus Association (now Tinnitus UK). In 2019, her innovative work developing services for children with tinnitus earned her the British Society of Audiology’s Ruth Spencer Prize.
Today, Claire serves as the President of the British Academy of Audiology, continuing to champion high-quality, compassionate care for young people with hearing needs.
